1. What is Core Maths? A new Level 3 Qualification, equivalent to an AS Level taken over 2 years, possibly 1. First examination summer 2017 AS UCAS equivalent points 20% level 3 content, 80% new higher GCSE content A brand new course for those who want to improve their valuable maths skills but are not planning to take AS or A-level mathematics. Focus on problem-solving skills, data analysis and personal finance

Discrete Maths Graphs We started with 4 pathways with the aim of ensuring that all CMLs and ETPs would have some early teaching resources Having meet that aim and noted the range or resources developed by CMLs and ETPs, we have expanded the number of pathways into 7 mathematical strands Thee resources that have been developed, after some editing, will be given an Overview front sheet, that provides a quick summary of what the resource is about

2. Why is it important? Introduced to support maths being available for all students up to age 18 & hence increase life chances Can focus on personal finance and a feel for data Core maths to be delivered in a problem solving context entirely (?) A vehicle for improving T&L at KS 5 ,4, 3, 2, 1 Part of accountability measures in Post 16 maths involvement

3. Who is it designed for? Anyone especially if they are considering studying science, geography, psychology, accountancy, business studies or economics at a higher level Anyone who gets a grade C or above in GCSE maths Any student who wants to develop their maths skills for the workforce. Any one who wants to improve career choice and increase their earning potential.

6. What is in it for schools/colleges?
Increase numbers post 16. Offer a full range of maths courses post 16 Skills gap in UK only 20% study maths beyond 16 (Japan 85%) opportunity- schools have a responsibility to support youngsters. Improve outcomes in other subjects ( maths content is increasing) Develop teaching and learning across the whole maths curriculum.

What did it say on the tin?
Level 3 maths for post 16 students- Core maths an exciting new development. Qu: Is there a level 3 maths qualification for students aged that is not as rigorous as A level ? Qu: Is there a course that develops problem solving strategies that can transform our teaching in key stages 3, 4 and 5? Qu: Is participation in maths post 16 important? What do you suggest for students who have a grade C (higher or foundation) or a weak B who want to do maths? Ans: Core maths
