Beginning with the end in mind
Habit #2 Beginning with the end in mind
2
Think/ Pair/ Share Why was easier for student A to put the puzzle together? Think of the puzzle pieces as the pieces of your life. Do you have a clear end in mind? Do you have a vision or a glimpse of what your future will look like? How can having a vision or end goal, help you put the pieces together in your life puzzle?

Habit 2 BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND
Control your own destiny or Someone Else Will Define your mission and goals in life. All things are created twice – first mentally, second physically. Individuals, families, teams, and organizations shape their own future by creating a mental vision and purpose for any project. They don’t just live day to day without a clear purpose in mind. They mentally identify and commit themselves to the principles, values, relationships, and purposes that matter most to them. What does this teen look like? What does the defective teen look like? The defective teen: Begin with no end in mind- no plans, no goals, living only for the moment, no worrying about the consequences of our actions 3

Beginning with the end in mind
It’s like creating an outline before you write an essay, following a recipe to bake a cake, or drawing up a blue print before you build a house Having an end goal in mind helps you navigate and map out a plan to get there and make your vision a reality.
5
Go back to your vision statement (on your journal) and read it to a partner
6
Critical Crossroads that may impact that vision –How would each impact your vision??
Death of a loved one family financial issues Not enough credits to graduate jail time DUI STD Change your mind about college move to a different State Injury from a sport Car accident- Injury and bills Drug addiction Teen Pregnancy Illness/ Disease Joined a gang
7
At these crossroads… You have to decide whether you will be Proactive or Reactive (Habit #1!!!) If you are proactive at these crossroads then it will be easier to get to the end vision that you want.
8
Mission Statement What is it? How is it different than a mission
A mission statement is a motto that states what your life is about, reason for living, and overall existence Following and staying true to this mission will lead you to your vision. Whereas your vision is what the successful future you looks like, feels like, and acts like.

S.M.A.R.T. Goals Tools for making goals a reality
14
S.M.A.R.T. Goals are… Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely
15
Specific Specific goals answer the following questions:
Who: Who is involved? What: What do I want to accomplish? Where: Identify a location. When: Establish a time frame. Which: Identify requirements/constraints. Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal.
16
Measurable To determine if your goal is measurable, ask questions such as How much? How many? How will I know when it is accomplished?
17
Attainable The goal is “do-able” It is action-oriented It is “within reach” Something you have control over Something that works with your schedule and lifestyle Is it possible? A may also stand for Action-oriented and that requires action verbs in the goal!
18
Relevant The goal must be an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work. Again, it must be “do-able” Is it applicable to your life right now Is it applicable to the vision you have set for yourself? Is it relevant to what YOU want, not others
19
Time bound You should establish a timeframe
The timeframe must be realistic What is the dealine? **T may also represent Tangible in that you can experience it with one of your senses!

I will join the Spanish Club, German club, Latin club, Mandarin club and Portuguese clubs at school and participate in all of the activities to learn the languages.
23
Which Goal is Relevant? I will take a nap every day to feel good about myself. I will hang out with my neighbor because my Mom told me I should and that it would make me feel better to have more friends. I will join one club at school and participate in the activities to help my self-esteem. I will have lots of friends when I’m older and be happy.
