SULP: Social Use of Language Programme

Content SULP is on the timetable for Years 9,10 and 11 to help pupils further develop their social and communication skills. The course focusses on 5 key areas of communication. Eye Contact. Listening. Turn Taking. Appropriate distance for communication. Volume, pace and tone of voice.

How is it taught? SULP is taught in whole class groups and smaller groups using a combination of talking together, social skills games and role play to help pupils learn the importance of social communication.

How does it help? SULP helps us in lots of situations in and out of school including: Getting on with others Asking for help Shopping Compromise Going to a Café Attending interviews for college

Emotional Scaling All classrooms have an emotional scaling board which gives all pupils the opportunity to indicate how they are feeling on a daily basis. Here are some examples
