1 In Search of a King 1-2 Samuel

2 2 Samuel 11:1-27 The King’s Fall

3 Then it happened in the spring, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him and all Israel, and they destroyed the sons of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem. (2 Samuel 11:1)

4 Rabbah AMMON

5 14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. 15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. (James 1:14-16)

6 The King’s Fall 1. David’s Initial Sin
David’s unguarded lust quickly turned to adultery David’s “secret” sin was not without public consequence

7 The King’s Fall 2. David’s Continuing Deception
David thought he could cover up his sin by his cleverness and control David did not heed the indirect reproof of a faithful life

8 The King’s Fall 3. David’s Final Cover Up
David covered his sin at any cost, even the death of innocent lives David refused to see his actions as evil but continued in his blind hypocrisy

9 The King’s Fall Lessons:
1. All of us are capable of the most egregious sins – “let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall” (1 Cor. 10:12)

10 The King’s Fall Lessons:
2. We need a better King, one who is faithful always, who will establish God’s kingdom… we need Messiah Jesus
