“When Pharaoh’s horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea, the Lord brought the waters of the sea back over them, but the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground. Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her, with tambourines and dancing. Miriam sang to them: ‘Sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted. The horse and its rider he has hurled into the sea.” Exodus 15: NIV

Miriam’s Prayer was a Song of Praise
Sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted God had rescued the Israelites from bondage in Egypt He rescued them again when the Egyptians changed their minds and came after the Israelites in the Red Sea – Exodus 14:5-31; 15:1, 21 They had much to praise God for!

Miriam’s Prayer was a Song of Praise
We have so much to praise God for! God has rescued us from the bondage of sin – Colossians 1:13-14 And He continues to rescue us from situations every day Praise should come naturally for us! – Psalm 147:1

Miriam’s Prayer was Passionate
She took up a tambourine and began to sing and dance This was a prayer of celebration! – Exodus 14:26 – 15:21 It was spontaneous, from the heart – 2 Samuel 6:1-5;

Our prayers should be passionate, from the heart Whether we are singing to the Lord or just talking to Him, it should always be heartfelt – Psalm 100; 103:1-5; Ephesians 5:19-20 We should never be embarrassed or feel constrained from expressing our feelings to God – 2 Samuel 6:16-22

All the women followed her Once Miriam started, all the other women joined in – Ex. 15:20 Praise is contagious! – 2 Samuel 6:5, 15

Are you singing God’s praises to those around you? There are all kinds of opportunities to praise God in public Let us be like Miriam and lead others in praising the Lord!
