Carnegie Unit: aka credits or units of credits. In high school you earn credits for every class you pass. You are required to earn a certain amount of credits to become a sophomore, junior, senior and to graduate.

Foundations of Algebra
AP $90 for first exam and $80 for each additional exam. If you qualify for free/reduced lunch, your first exam is free and additional exams are $53 each. Honors/Pre-AP/AP Automatic referral Distinguished level on EOG and an A in the course Teacher recommendation Foundations of Algebra

Declared Pathways In compliance with House Bill 186, all incoming 9th graders must declare a pathway. You are expected to be a pathway completer by graduation. The four pathways are: • CTAE • Advanced Academic in either English, Mathematics, Science or Social Studies • Fine Arts • World Language Space is provided on the 8th Grade Registration Card for students to declare their chosen pathway. This declaration is up for revision each year.

High School Promotion Rules
Promoted to 10th Grade: 6 units must include one (1) unit in Math and one (1) unit in English. Promoted to 11th Grade: 12 units must include (2) units in Math, two (2) units in English, two (2) units in Science, and one (1) unit in Social Studies. Promoted to 12th Grade: 18 units must be include three (3) units in Math, three (3) units in English, three (3) units in Science, and two (2) units in Social Studies.

Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT)
Approved at the High Schools. The use of technology to access educational material is not a right but a privilege. When respected, this privilege will benefit the learning environment as a whole. A student does not have the right to use his or her laptop, cell phone or other electronic device while at school so when abused the privileges will be taken away.

What is Dual Enrollment?
A process through which a high school student takes one or more courses from a state public or private postsecondary institution and receives credit at the high school and post secondary institution. Dual enrollment is open to any student who is enrolled

When do students take Dual Enrollment courses?
9th – 12th grade Courses may be taken before, during or after regular school hours. Summer Students may be enrolled part time or full time.

CCI- Douglas County College and Career Institute
High School Programs: Students in grades 9th grade may attend the CCI to take two Career Pathways for high school credit. The two pathways are: Graphic Arts Broadcast/Video Production Programs: Auto Tech, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Dental Assisting, Early Childhood Care & Education, Game Development Specialist, Graphic Arts, Heating & Air Conditioning, Nurse Aide, Pharmacy Assistant, Video Production, Welding

AP, Regular or credit recovery. SB 289 Senate Bill 289 (SB 289) was passed into law on May 1, Under this law, all students in grades K-12 who attend public schools will be provided information regarding online options and will be given opportunities during an open enrollment period to participate in online instruction. Students will have access to online learning at all grade levels. Beginning 2014, all entering ninth grade students will be given the option to participate in online courses maximizing the numbers of students completing online courses before graduation. By 2015, all End-of-Course assessments will be online.

Scholarships: These funds are given to, or earned by, students, and are used for tuition. There are numerous public and private sources for scholarships. Some are given based on need, some on merit or skill. Others have very specific stipulations on who can receive the scholarship. Full ride Partial Athletic Academic Other Grants: A grant is money given to students for their education. Often based on need, grants may come from federal or state programs, or sometimes from private charitable organizations. It does not have to be repaid. Loans: Funds borrowed that have to be paid back, usually with interest.

Georgia Grants and Scholarships
HOPE Grant Georgia's HOPE Grant (a separate program from the HOPE Scholarship) is available to Georgia residents who are working towards a certificate or diploma (continuing education programs are not eligible) at an eligible college or university in Georgia Zell Miller Grant Georgia's Zell Miller Grant is available to Georgia residents who are working towards a certificate or diploma at a Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) or University System of Georgia (USG) institution. The HOPE Scholarship is a merit based scholarship that provides assistance towards the cost of tuition at eligible public and private Georgia postsecondary institutions. A student must graduate from an eligible high school with a minimum 3.0 HOPE GPA (as calculated by GSFC) and meet specific rigor course requirements. The Zell Miller Scholarship is a merit based scholarship that provides full tuition at a public postsecondary institution and tuition assistance at an eligible private postsecondary institution. A student must graduate from an eligible high school as valedictorian or salutatorian (meeting the requirements of the HOPE Scholarship) or graduate with a minimum 3.7 Zell Miller GPA (as calculated by GSFC) along with a minimum combined score of 1200 on the math and reading portions of the SAT or a minimum composite score of 26 on the ACT (single national administration of either test) and meet specific rigor course requirements.
