2. What is dual credit?
TISD in partnership with LSC – Tomball offers juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn high school credit and college credit while taking courses on the TMHS campus.
Benefits:
Saves money because tuition is waived
Head start on college credit
No travel time to a college campus
DC students become LSC –Tomball students and can access LSC library and wellness center

3. Important dc guidelines
Application process for DC starts at TMHS – cannot bypass TMHS process
Must qualify for college level courses with test scores
Must have passed all grade level EOC exams
Be aware that different courses may have different requirements (Ex: math & science.)
TMHS sets official deadlines – not LSC.
DC semester average of “C” or better in all courses is required to continue in the program.
All DC courses must be taken at the high school.

4. Guidelines, cont.
FERPA form must be on file with LSC for parents to have access to student’s information.
Parent Consent & Waiver for Minors form is required for students 17 and under.
Financial Responsibility Form - required
Students are responsible for the purchase of their textbooks.
Some courses require summer assignments.
It is the student’s responsibility to be aware whether the college course will transfer to his/her college of choice and for their major.
Be aware of Texas public university rules regarding taking excessive college hours toward a degree.

12. Pre-assessment activity
Required for students who do not qualify with SAT/ACT scores.
Access the link on your MyLoneStar (my.lonestar.edu) homepage in the in the blue box on the Applicant Tab
PAA consists of short reading section, videos and practice questions required for all students taking the TSI exam
Pre-Assessment Activity must be complete PRIOR to receiving a testing ticket

13. After completing step 1
After completing the Application AND the Pre-Assessment Activity…
Submit your Green Course Request Form with your LSC ID number to Mrs. Phelan BY FEB. 16th to get on the list to receive a testing ticket
Testing tickets will be given out the week of Feb. 21st to those who have completed Step 1.

14. Qualifying meeting Texas state initiative
All DC students must be at college level in both Reading and Writing for ALL courses (except College Algebra).
Math and science courses have specific math requirements.
Each course has a different requirement – above or below college level. Please check requirements carefully!

17. Where/HOW do I test? LSC Testing tickets are required to test.
Testing tickets - distributed at lunch in the cafeteria the week of Feb. 21st (depending on LSC)
OR if you want to get ahead, you can go to Enrollment Services at LSC-Tomball to request a DC testing ticket (see LSC hours)

19. If exempt with SAT/ACT Scores

Students will then be put on the list to receive a Registration packet in April

20. Step 3: registering for classes
Submit qualifying test scores by April 13th.
The week of April 17th students will be given their Registration Packet.

21. Taking a spring college credit only course?
Qualify BY APRIL 13, NO EXCEPTIONS!
Registration and payment for these courses will take place in November through the dual credit classrooms.

Students may also visit the Bursar/Cashier’s Office at LSC-Tomball to pay in person if preferred.

24. Fall/Spring Fees
Dual Credit courses are set up just like college courses
Students register the semester PRIOR to taking the course
Ex: Fall 2017 course – register in Spring 2017
Ex: Spring 2018 course – register in Fall 2017
Payment of fees for full year courses are made upon each course registration (two payments – Fall/Spring). Semester courses only require one payment.

25. Holds on accounts
Holds will be shown on accounts that students need to complete orientation and the bacterial meningitis vaccination requirement.
DC students are NOT required to complete these steps. Please ignore and close these notices.
If you attend LSC after graduation, these steps must be met.

26. Deadlines
By February 16th - Complete application & Pre-assessment and submit Course Request Form to Mrs. Phelan
Week of February 21st - Receive testing ticket
By April 13th - Submit qualifying scores to Mrs. Phelan
By April 21st - Return Fall DC Registration Packet
June 1st – Payment Deadline

28. Dropping DUAL CREDIT Courses
The student is responsible for knowing the LSC Drop Policies (info/dates given at beginning of semester).
Students must complete and submit the appropriate LSC DROP form to Mrs. Phelan to be submitted to LSC.
YOU MUST SUBMIT DROP FORMS WITH BOTH CAMPUSES! Not just TMHS Drop Form

29. Making an Informed Decision: AP vs. DC
College credit - research what colleges will accept and/or require. Degree requirements will vary.
Research the expectations/work load of each course
Carefully consider time commitment and be able to balance academic load with extracurricular activities, family life, or outside commitments.

30. Dual Credit (DC)
Student is responsible for course(s) fees and textbook(s)
Grade and credit posted on both high school and college transcripts
Credits generally accepted by Texas public colleges and universities and some out-of-state schools.
Check with each college/university for credit transfer details.
