ARTHUR, GUENEVERE, AND LANCELOT
Story Presumed Welsh in origin, later medieval renditions say that Guenevere (also spelled Guinevere) is married to King Arthur in a political arrangement, bringing the Round Table and 100 knights as her dowry. Queen Guenevere falls in love with Lancelot, who is the best knight of the Round Table and King Arthur’s close, brother-like friend, and vice versa. She is frequently abducted and he always comes to rescue her, the damsel-in-distress. King Arthur finds out about the affair when the two lovers are both absent from a feast. King Arthur goes to Europe at the incitement of Mordred, his son and nephew, to defeat Lancelot who has fled there. Mordred takes the opportunity to claim Arthur’s throne and tries to make Guenevere as his wife, but she tricks him and locks herself and her entourage inside the Tower of London until King Arthur, upon hearing the news, returns to fight Mordred. The two men die, and Lancelot and Guenevere meet for the last time before she commits herself to a convent for the remainder of her life. “Guinevere” Eil Young Band She carries memories around like souvenirs down in her pockets She should have let some go by now but can't seem to drop it Says forgiveness ain't nothing but a lifeless tire on the shoulder of her soul That never rolls… She don't hold onto nothin' new for very long Yeah she writes you in as just one more tale and then you're gone 'Cause she once fell hard 'cause she dropped her guard And no one gets to stay it's just too late… For as much as she stumbled she's runnin' For as much as she runs she's still here For as much as she stumbled she's runnin' For as much as she runs she's still here Always hoping to find something quicker than heaven To make the damage of her days disappear Just like Guinevere Just like Guinevere Lean into me Guinevere Be mine tonight Guinevere Ajemian, Victoria Leigh. “Don’t Make A Scene: The Representation Of The Arthurian Love Triangle In The ‘English Tradition’ Of Text And Film.” Diss.
