SECTION 2: FAMILIARITY
2
Discovery Questions The next set of slides focus on the types of questions you should ask to qualify a customer, as well as the types of responses you should listen for.
3
DISCOVERY QUESTION #1 How is ELA being taught in your school/district?
What kinds of reading materials do your teachers use? Start by asking how ELA is taught in the school or district; is it highly teacher directed, student centric or a combination of both? Do teachers follow a balanced literacy approach, and if so what does that look like? Also ask whether students are reading from an anthology, or exploring authentic text?
4
DISCOVERY QUESTION #2 Have your teachers been trained for Common Core readiness? Do your teachers feel that they have the tools to effectively teach and meet all of the Common Core standards? Because ReadyGEN delivers the Common Core standards in a familiar balanced literacy approach, you will want to find out whether teachers have been trained for Common Core readiness. You will also want to find out whether they feel as if they have the tools to effectively teach and meet all of the Common Core standards.
5
DISCOVERY QUESTION #3 Are your teachers prepared for Next Generation assessments? With the onsite of PARCC and Smarter Balanced, you will want to find out teachers’ level of preparedness around Next Gen assessments.
6
DISCOVERY QUESTION #4 What are your technology requirements?
Realize is device agnostic, which means that ReadyGEN content can be accessed anytime on any device. However, it’s still important to have a sense of a school or district’s digital infrastructure.
7
DISCOVERY QUESTION #5 How much are you looking to spend per student?
Because ReadyGEN is priced slightly higher than comparable literacy programs, this last Discovery Question may be the most important. How much is your customer looking to spend?

New York City Public Schools
Leadership, Empowerment, and Accountability Meet Common Core expectations Core Curriculum built in partnership with NYC Realize rollout in October 2500 teachers and 65,000 students As you might recall, ReadyGEN started out as a collaboration between Pearson and the New York City Department of Ed with the goal of equipping all NYC public school teachers and students with the tools necessary to meet the new expectations of the Common Core. As part of our ongoing commitment to New York City, we will complete the ReadyGEN rollout with district-wide access to Realize starting in October. Approximately 2500 teachers and 65,000 students will use ReadyGEN this year.

Pasco County Schools Helping Students Reach their Highest Potential
Develop lessons that align to district framework District-wide literacy adoption Currently being rolled out 1200 teachers and 35,000 students Pasco County Schools in Florida value what they call a “thinking” curriculum where teachers look to align lessons to their district’s framework which is built around KUDs, or what students Know, Understand, and are able to Do. The district chose to adopt ReadyGEN because they believed that the lessons reflect this type of “thinking” curriculum. ReadyGEN is currently being rolled out to approximately 1200 teachers and 35,000 students.

The program features all materials needed to assist teachers to instruct in phonics, vocabulary, and spelling.
