Changes in air pressure cause the ear drum to vibrate.

This makes the bones (ossicles) move.

The cochlea changes these movements into electrical signals
…and sends them to your brain.

Your brain filters the sounds.
It can tell where a sound is coming from based on tiny differences in timing. Your brain works out what sounds MEAN.
