4 What Is Advisory? Advisory is a regularly scheduled period of time, where adults in the building meet with groups of students for the purpose of forming a relationship and advising them on academic, career, and personal/social/emotional development.   Advisory programs are used to help ensure that at least one adult in the building forms a bond with individual students and that their academic, career and personal/social/emotional needs are not being overlooked or left unattended. Clear expectations and goals for Advisory lessons must be established, the curriculum must be relevant to the needs of the students at the particular school, and classes need to be monitored/evaluated on use of time and efficacy.
