2 The Rocky Mountains The largest mountain range system in North America. 3,000 New Mexico Extend _______ miles from ________________ to __________ and into Alaska. Canada Continental Divide (located at the crest of the Rocky Mountains) Rivers on the west flow towards the Pacific Ocean. Rivers on the east flows towards the Gulf of Mexico or Atlantic Ocean.

3 Timberline Most of the Rocky Mountains are covered with forests. However, most trees do not grow above a certain point because the temperatures are too cold. This imaginary line is called the timberline.
