Several types of mutations
Mutations in body cells (somatic mutation) can result in disease such as cancer
Mutagens: radiations or chemicals that can cause somatic mutations
Somatic mutations do not occur in the gametes: cannot be passed on

Germinal mutation: Mutation in cells that give rise to gametes (germ cells)
Germinal mutations are not expressed in the carrier: only their offspring
Extremely important in the mechanism of natural selection
