Personal Commercial My choice to be an office assistant came at an early age because my mother is an office assistant. I have always looked up to her because of her business knowledge and organizational skills. With her support and my determination, I am on target to earn a clerical administration certificate from Fairfield Career Center. I gained experience working with customers and being a team player in my current job as a cashier. In this position, I have learned to work with customers, work under stressful and busy situations, handle money, process merchandise and train other workers. The job-related skills I learn in high school would easily apply to this position. They include accurate typing at 50 words per minute, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, records- management skills, positive telephone skills, and excellent customer service skills. In addition, I have proofreading and editing skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and good attendance. I am responsible, mature, positive, motivated and organized.

Personal Commercial At some point, an interviewer will ask “Why should I hire you?“, “Tell me about yourself.”, “Why are you the best candidate?” A personal commercial is a brief career biography—about the same length as a television commercial—that conveys the knowledge, skills, strengths, abilities, and experiences that make you uniquely qualified for the position for which you are applying. For this assignment, complete these two steps: Step 1: Briefly describe the specific job that you are aiming for. Step 2: Write a personal commercial that sells your skills and ties these skills to the job you described in Step 1.

STAR Technique– Sample Response
Question: Tell me about a time you demonstrated leadership skills. Answer: Situation During my last quarter of school, I completed an internship at Memorial Hospital in the Health Information Management department. Task In the beginning of the internship, my supervisor asked me to create and administer a training curriculum for the new, incoming interns. Action To complete this task, first, I outlined all the procedures the new interns would need to learn about such as HIPAA standards, how to operate the 10-line phone system, and how to use the health record index and storage system. Next, I created a three day training agenda covering these topics. Finally, I facilitated it to four new interns. Response The training was a huge success. On a survey completed after the training, all four interns rated the program a 10 out of 10 in the areas of usefulness and creativity. In addition, each intern rated my communication and leadership styles as “Excellent.”
