Film/TV-Sound Designer
A sound designer- to put it bluntly creating sound effects for a production, whether it be explosions, plane crashes or even more subtle sounds that effect the tone or mood of a scene and managing the post production sound process. Route in-through work experience and learning through the experience and work your way up. To get a job in this field, you need a minimum of a B.Mus (Tonmeister) qualification or any sort of equivalent qualification for an entry-level position. This type of job is a creative one, as you need to think of the right sounds for a scene. The type of transferable skills you will need for this job are as follows: having a legitimate interest for film and sound, to be imaginative and creative, being able to work under pressure and to have an expertise in sound editing and recording. This type of work is mostly post production. People in this field include Ben Burtt (Star Wars, Star Trek, WALL.E), Jack Foley (creator of Foley), Glenn Freemantle (Slumdog millionaire).

Film/TV- Music Editor A music editor- basically in charge of all the music that features on the film’s soundtrack, this includes the Composer’s score, performed music and bought in music. Route in- there is no one route in to this job, but he method that has seemed to have the highest success rate is to simply work your way up. To get a job in this field, it is important to have a degree in Music and/or Sound Technology - a B.Mus (Tonmeister) or an equivalent qualification. This type of job is an organizational one, as you ned to keep a note of the music you use and put them in the right order. The type of transferable skills you will need are as follows: An understanding of how music can affect images and create drama, have exceptional musical skills and have great communication skills. This type of work is mostly post production. Notable people in this field include: Terry Wilson (Chronicle). Marco Beltrami (The Wolverine). Jim Henrikson (The Amazing Spiderman)

Radio- Podcast Producer
A podcast producer- essentially act as a creative director of the production and to record and edit the entire transmission and to make sure all resources are properly sourced. Route in- with things like this, it’s best to start with your own personal blog first, as this gives you god practise on a non professional level, and if it gets popular enough, you may be picked up by a larger studio, or it may be successful enough on it’s own. For this job you don’t actually need any specific qualifications, but it would still probably help to take a few courses in radio so you have a basic understanding of sound editing. This type of job is mostly creative as a lot of it has to come from you and your commentary. Types of transferable skills you’ll need: A good skill in sound editing, have good organizational skills and also good communication skills. This type of work is a bit of all three production types Notable people in this field include: Terry Gross (Fresh Air). Sarah Koenig (Serial). Joe Rogan (The Joe Rogan Experience)

Radio-Audio Engineer An audio engineer- Make sure there is sound being broadcast to the radio and that it all sounds good. Route in- take a radio course in university, a lot of the time this leads to work experience at a radio station, then if you work hard enough, a job. The qualifications you’ll need for this job are a B.Mus (Tonmeister) in sound engineering or an equivalent qualification. This type of job is an organizational one, as you need to be on to of what needs to go in, fade in/ fade outs and mx certain music and sounds. Types of transferable skills needed: A good skill in sound editing, have good organizational skills and also good communication skills. This type of job is production based. There are not many notable people in this field but it can make you around £30,000 annually.

Gaming- Music Composer
A music composer- to compose and accumulate a video games original sound track, from levels to boss fights. Route in- possibly join a group developing an indie game as a composer, and if that game becomes successful, bigger companies may notice you. it is important to have a degree in Music-a B.Mus (Tonmeister) or an equivalent qualification. This type of job is a creative one, as you yourself have to create and compose the music. The types of transferable skills needed are: good communication skills, an enthusiasm about music, to be imaginative and creative and to be able to work under pressure. This type of work is pre production mostly. Notable people in this field include: James Hannigan (Dead Space). Toby Fox (Undertale). Hirokazu Tanaka (Mother).

Gaming-Audio Engineer
An audio engineer- someone who collates all the audio aspects of a video game into a cohesive order. Route in- Again there is not set route into this field, but a degree in a musical background is essential, you could apply for work experience and work your way up though. A specific qualification isn’t crucial to be an Audio Engineer, but a degree or any other sort of higher education qualification in sound engineering is very useful. This type of job is an organizational one, as you need to be on to of what needs to go in, fade in/ fade outs and mx certain music and sounds. also to keep not of what sounds need to go where. Types of transferable skills needed: A good skill in sound editing, have good organizational skills and also good communication skills. This type of job is all around production wise. There are not many notable people in this field.
