4 Warm-Up Exercise: Sharing of Prior Knowledge
We are about to begin looking at the causes of the Industrial Revolution, in a class discussion, I want you to tell me what you know of the Industrial Revolution: What was it? When was it? Where it happened? Why it happened? And how it impacted society during its period as well as how it continues to affect us today?

5 Warm-Up Exercise: Sharing of Prior Knowledge (2)
In order: What was the Industrial Revolution? When did it take place? Where did it originate? Why did it happen? How did it affect its society, and lastly how does it still have influence on our society today?? **If you feel comfortable, make a timeline while we are discussing.

6 Grouped Partners: Grouped Partners
The class is divided into groups of four, in which students choose a partner. Each set of partners moves to opposite places in the room. Each set of partners is given an alternative assignment (something to learn that they will then teach the other two partners in their group.) Partners work to master the material provided and can consult with other partners working on the same material. Partners then rejoin into their groups of four and each set of partners will teach the other set.

7 Understanding Britain Pre-Industrial Revolution
It is always important to understand how an event – such as the Industrial Revolution – can have a significant impact. One great way of understanding an impact is to understand what it was like prior to the event.

So… What? ---What did the society look like, how was it organized, etc… Where? ---Where was society located? When? ---When – and how long – did the type of society exist prior to the revolution? Why? ---Why was society the way it was???

9 Understanding Britain Post-Industrial Revolution
Just as important as understanding how society functioned prior to the revolution, it is just as important to make the connections that the revolution had on shifting where the country had been and where it was after the fact.

10 Understanding Britain Post-Industrial Revolution
So… What? ---What did the society look like after the revolution began, how was did it its organization, etc… Where? ---Where was society now located? When? ---When – and how long – did the new type of society exist? Did it have lasting effects? Why? ---Why did it change???

11 …So Why Great Britain? There are 5 Significant factors that are identified as to why the Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain: Agrarian Revolution (Amount of food cropped) Enclosure Movement England had a ready supply of money (less land made English people more Entrepreneurial in spirit compared to their French counterparts). Plentiful natural resources Healthy supply of markets for goods (colonies)
