1 Comp. Notebook Pg. 15: Homeostasis Lab Post-Lab Questions (CSRQ or Write Down)
What body systems had to work for your body to maintain homeostasis and not overheat during exercise? Explain why an increase in heart rate and breathing rate accompanies exercise. Describe what EACH body system did to maintain homeostasis and keep your body going for the entire exercise time? (You must talk about the functions of some organs in the body systems to help describe this.) We graded/went over these at the beginning of class.

2 Claim Evidence Reasoning (CER)
(4.5.16) Comp. Notebook Page 16: Claim Evidence Reasoning (CER)

3 (4.5.16) Pg. 16 CER Box-Chart Copy in your comp. notebook
Question: Claim (What’s your answer to the question asked?) Reasoning (Explain why or how your evidence supports your claim?) Evidence (Be specific.) (Tell how your evidence supports and explains your claim and reasoning.

6 EVIDENCE Think of the ACT Aspire Test…lots of un-needed information.

7 EVIDENCE Be careful with this one (is it a true experience or just an opinion

8 REASONING Reasoning is the explanation that connects your claim to the evidence that supports it. It shows why the data you chose counts as evidence. This explanation acts as a “conclusion” of your experiment. It shows a detailed understanding of the scientific principals involved and uses correct science vocabulary. The reasoning should usually be at least 2-3 sentences in length.

9 White Board: CER Example 1: Aliens

10 On Your White Board: CER Box-Chart
Question: Is her dad an alien? Claim (What’s your answer to the question asked?): Yes he is. or No he is not an alien. Evidence: What evidence did she provide? Reasoning: Write a sentence or two explaining why she thinks her claim is true, provide evidence. Add clarification or reasoning to add to the evidence. Reasoning is a step more than evidence.

11 White Board: CER Example 2: Mars Rover “Curiosity”

12 On Your White Board: Mars Curiosity Rover
Question: What question is trying to be answered? Claim: 1.No life was on Mars. 2.There was life on Mars. Evidence What evidence is being collected to answer the question? Reasoning: You cannot provide reasoning without a clear answer to the question with clear evidence to support your claim.

13 In your comp. notebook Pg. 16 CER Box-Chart
Question: Do cats or dogs make a better pet? Claim (What’s your answer to the question asked?): 1.Dogs are better pets than cats. 2.Cats are better pets than dogs. Evidence (Tell how your evidence supports and explains your claim and reasoning.) Minimum of 3 pieces of evidence. Reasoning (Why do you think that answer is correct? Use your evidence.). 15 Last example on your white board
Read the scenario below, look at the data given in the table, and answer the prompt. Here’s some help to get started: What are the possible questions that could be asked? 1. Running a mile does not have an effect on the student’s cardiovascular system. 2. Running a mile does have an effect on the student’s cardiovascular system. What is your evidence to support your claim.

16 Do this on your white board please.
