James matthew barrie J.M. Barrie was a Scottish dramatist, best known for writingPeter Pan. Born on May 9, 1860, in Kirriemuir , Forfarshire, Scotland. After graduating from Edinburgh University in 1882, Barrie worked as a journalist. He published his first novel, Better Dead, in 1887, After having some success with fiction, Barrie began writing plays in 1890s. His play, Walker London, was warmly received. He got married himself in 1894 to actress Mary Ansell, but it didn't turn out to be a happy union. Perhaps to escape his difficult home life, Barrie took to going out for long walks in London's Kensington Gardens where he met the five Llewelyn Davies brothers, He found inspiration for his best-known work—Peter Pan—in his friendship with the Davies family. The famous character of Peter Pan first appeared in the 1902 book The Little White Bird. Two years later, his play Peter Pan became a great success. J. M. Barrie died on June 19, 1937, in London, England. As a part of his will, he gave the copyright to Peter Pan to a children's hospital in London. After his death, Barrie's beloved characters were transformed into animated figures in the Disney classic Peter Pan.

Plot: Peter Pan Wendy. Michael and John were three brothers who lived in the suburbs of London . Wendy , the oldest , had infected to her little brothers her admiration for Peter Pan. Every night she told Peter’s adventures to her brothers. One night, when they were almost asleep, they saw a light moving around the room, it was Tinkerbell , the fairy who always accompanied Peter Pan. Peter invited them to travel with him to Neverland , where the lost children lived and with the magic power of Tinkerbell they fly. When they were already near Neverland , Tinkerbell felt jealous of Wendy and for this reason Tinkerbell told to the lost children that they had to shoot an arrow at a big bird that was with Peter. Wendy fell on to the ground but luckily the arrow didn’t go deep into her body and soon she recovered from the wound. The pirates organized an ambush and took Wendy, Michael and John like prisoners. Captain Hook try to poison Peter but Tinkerbell saved him and threw the glass with poison. Only one thing could save her: that all the children believed in fairies and in the power of fantasy And in this way , thanks to the children, Tinkerbell was saved. Meanwhile, Wendy, Michael and Jhon were still with the pirates and Peter went to fight with Hook and suddenly the ticking of a clock stunned Hook. The crocodile was there and he fell into the sea. Peter try to convince Wendy and her brothers to stay with him in Neverland , but the 3 children decided to come back.

THEMES: The conflict between the innocence of childhood and the responsibility of adulthood. Peter has literally chosen not to make the transition from one to the other, and encourages the other children to do the same. However, the opening line, "All children, except one, grow up," and the conclusion of the story indicates that this wish is unrealistic, and there is an element of tragedy in the alternative Sex roles, especially motherhood, are explored in Peter Pan. Peter convinces Wendy to come to Never Land so she can see a mermaid, but he really wants her to act as a mother to himself and the Lost Boys. She is to tell them stories, like her own mother tells to her. Duty and responsibility — or their lack— drive the actions of many characters in Peter Pan. Peter Pan wants to avoid all adult responsibility and goes to great lengths to achieve this goal. He refuses to play father to Wendy’s mother, uncomfortable even when pretending the role. In the end, when Wendy and her brothers decide to go back home, Peter will not let himself be adopted by the Darlings as the other Lost Boys are. If he went back, he would eventually have to grow up, assume responsibility, and become a man.

Famous quotes So, Peter, you've become a pirate.
[Maggie says that Jack told her Wendy is not the "real" Wendy] Ahh. Well, do you see where Jack is? That is the same window and this is the same room where we made up bedtime stories telling about Peter, Neverland, and scary old Captain Hook. But did you know that Mr. Barrie... well, Sir James, our neighbor, he loved our stories so much that he wrote them all down in a book... oh dear me... eighty years ago. Maggie: You're really old. Wendy: That's very true. The stories are true! I swear to you! I swear to you on everything I hold dear! And now he's come back to seek his revenge. The fight isn't over for Captain James Hook. He wants you back. He knows that you'll follow Jack and Maggie to the ends of the earth and beyond. And by heavens, you must find a way. Only you can save your children. Somehow, you must go back. You must make yourself remember. Peter: Remember what? Wendy: Peter, don't you know who you are? [turns the page of a storybook to reveal an illustration of Peter Pan] [Peter remembers the last time he came for Wendy] Peter, I can't come with you. I've forgotten how to fly. I'm old, Peter. Ever so much more than twenty. I grew up a long time ago. from the film:hook capitan uncino.
