4. 2K Cold Box Design Scope
Engineer and design a cold box assembly in accordance with national and SLAC safety standards for fabrication
Provide sub atmospheric pumping up to 215 g/s of 2K helium gas using five stages of serially connected variable speed centrifugal compressors supported by magnetic bearings
Must support the flow rates associated with LCLSII “First Light” and standard normal linac operation

Technical Scope Are all specifications, requirements, performance and interface documents identified, reviewed, and at the level of maturity commensurate with a PDR. Is the design sufficiently mature and technically sound so as to meet the performance specifications at this point of design? Have installation issues been identified and addressed in the preliminary design? Have all the major interfaces been identified and incorporated into the design? Design Management Is the design team organized and staffed to successfully complete the project? Have all of the major risks been identified (ex: seismic)? Has Value Engineering been appropriately applied? Is the development of associated process design sufficiently to support the detail mechanical and electrical design ? Cost and Schedule Is the current preliminary cost and schedule reasonable to achieve the planned technical scope? This is a reasonableness assessment by technical experts, not a detailed cost/schedule review. ES&H Have all related ES&H aspects been identified, and planned to be properly addressed? Miscellaneous Have all the previous design review action items/comments been addressed? Have lessons learned been addressed? Are there any other issues that have been identified that need to be addressed? Overall Readiness Is the design maturity at the level sufficient for preliminary design review approval?
