Plan an Exam Answer Explain two Muslim teachings about angels. Refer to scripture or sacred writings in your answer. (5 marks) Consensus Circle: Draw a circle in the middle of your sugar paper. In silence each person in the group is going to write outside of the circle everything they have learnt about angels (nature and their role). Share what each person has written with your group. As a group plan your exam answer in the middle of the circle – what are you going to write in each paragraph? BUG the question with students. Then get them to complete a consensus circle activity to help them with their planning. During the group planning stage of the activity give one student the role of an envoy to see how other groups have planned their answer.

Look for similarities and differences. Use the model answer to make improvements to your own. One Muslim teaching about angels is that an angel is always with each human, for example, writing down their actions in the book of deeds or protecting them as a guarding angel. This is illustrated through the quote ‘For each, there are angels in succession, before and behind him. They guard him by the Command of Allah.’ Another Muslim teaching on angels is that there are four archangels, one of which is the angel Jibril. He was an important messenger as he relayed the Qur’an to Muhammad from God. This is because God cannot speak directly to humans but has to go through angels because they are sinless.
