Zurbuchen1 1 Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 2 School of Chemistry and Biochemistry and School of Physics, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA Electron stimulated desorption (ESD) is a process by which >10eV electrons can desorb ions from instrument surfaces ESD processes have been identified in the ACE/SWICS and MESSENGER/FIPS instruments. Such processes may apply to similar TOF sensors. ESD-based dark counts observed in ACE/SWICS double coincidence measurements
