4 HOW TO KILL AN ORGANIZATION WITHOUT TRYING
Don’t Attend Meetings Never Say Anything At The Meeting-Wait Until You Get Outside While At The Meeting, Vote to Do Everything, Then Go Home And Do Nothing Talk Cooperation, But Never Cooperate If Appointed To A Committee, Never Give Any Time Or Service To It

5 WHY BOARDS FAIL Members Do Not Have A Good Understanding of The Organization And What Their Role Is Because They Have Not Established Working Committees Because They Have No Plan

7 PJA To represent the Glenview community by attending scheduled PJA meetings and reporting community concerns/issues. Tasks Report community concerns to the PJA committee Follow-up on concerns reported Share status of action taken regarding reported concerns Explain the process to new and existing neighborhood association members Provide a status report to be included in newsletter

8 HISTORY AND RESEARCH To collect and preserve the social and cultural history of the Glenview community. Tasks Collect historical information (i.e photos and other memorabilia) regarding Glenview Compile information into a working document that an be shared with Glenview residents Establish an oral history program where former and long term residents are interviewed about their recollection of life in Glenview

9 COMMUNICATION AND ENGAGEMENT
To recruit and increase communication to and among members as well as provide up to date information and resources about the association both internal and external. Tasks Identify and plan initiatives designed to build and retain membership Design and implement membership drive and monitor membership status with graphs, charts, etc. Develop publications (i.e. newsletters, announcements, etc) Announce meetings Develop website, link-in, blogs etc.

10 BEAUTIFICATION AND ENVIRONMENT
To work to make the Glenview community attractive and promote environmental sustainability. Tasks Lead projects such as Adopt a Street, Graffiti Removal, Neighborhood Cleanup projects, Illegal dumping, Reporting littering Assist with community Arboretum project Initiate holiday decorating competitions Initiate environmental projects such as Go Green, community gardens, etc.

11 SAFETY AND SECURITY To advise the Board of Directors on issues, concerns, and recommendations pertaining to the safety and security of the neighborhood Tasks Review resident concerns related to community safety Organize Neighborhood Watch/Block Watch Organize informational programs such as CPR, emergency preparedness, etc. Serve as liaison with local law enforcement (Memphis City Police, Shelby County Sheriff, etc.) Report and compile crime safety data

12 PROGRAM AND EVENTS To assist with planning for neighborhood affairs/events that will help support and strengthen relationships between Glenview residents. Tasks Assist with planning for yard sale, anniversary celebrations, National Night Out etc., Taste of Memphis, etc. Take photographs of all events, submit photos to communication committee for newsletter, web site, etc. Maintain file of all events, photos and articles Spearhead all events scheduled by the neighborhood association

13 PLANNING All committee chairs will need to complete a work plan that will include goals for the committee and activities. To select committee members to assist with planned activities To communicate monthly providing update of committee goals and activities during board meeting and at membership-at-large meetings To submit an annual work plan that can be included in the organization’s strategic plan See content/uploads/2014/11/RVPFWKPlan2 014 for sample workplan

14 MAINTAINING MEMBERSHIP AND MEETING ATTENDANCE
Plan social events in which to participate Schedule issues of importance to discuss Share clean and visible accomplishments Place in office organized and competent leaders Schedule events to recognize participants

Notices of important meeting dates and group events Information about city services Recent accomplishes of the group Recognition of volunteers Information about schools in the neighborhood Profiles of neighbors Birth/death announcements Graduation announcements Welcome to new neighborhood Activities of community interest Advertising
