Dual Language Immersion Program
The Robla Dual language Immersion Program integrates native English-speaking and native Spanish-speaking students in the same classroom and provides academic instruction in both English and Spanish.

Achieve academically at or above grade level Develop high levels of proficiency in English and Spanish Acquire cross-cultural competence

Robla’s DLI Program for 2017
Site: Glenwood Elementary, district magnet with the following priorities for enrollment: Siblings of enrolled students (effective next year) Participants in DLI preschool (effective next year) Children of Robla staff Glenwood attendance area students Robla students from other school attendance areas Out-of-district students Model: 80/20 Classroom composition: 50% English / 50% Spanish Initial literacy in Spanish for all students Start with 2 kindergarten classes in August 2017

50% of students speak English in the home 50% of students speak Spanish in the home - or are bilingual One Class = 12 English spaces / 12 Spanish spaces Two Classes = 24 English spaces / 24 Spanish spaces

Language Proficiency Assessment
All students who apply to the program will be assessed for language proficiency in either English or Spanish - or both if they speak both languages. Language proficiency results will be used to: Determine which language group the student belongs to for enrollment purposes in order to maintain 50/50 balance of English and Spanish Determine if the student has the basic language skills needed to be a successful participant in a DLI program. Students with language delays or language processing difficulties may be better served in programs designed to meet their specific language needs.

Application and Enrollment Process
Parents attend informational meeting Kinder students enroll in district at home school - starts Feb 1 Complete separate DLIP Application form and submit at school or district office All students who apply are assessed for language proficiency in Spanish and/or English - eligibility lists established based on language and priority status March 24th - last day to apply to be included in lottery March 31st - lottery held if needed, Applications will continue to be accepted if there is space

Application and Enrollment Process
Parents notified of acceptance or waiting list status Parents confirm intent for child to participate and sign and submit the DLIP parent commitment form - or release spot in program for another student Parents of participating students who reside outside the school or district boundaries complete an intra- or inter- district transfer request Parents attend required program orientation meetings in May and August prior to start of new school year First year of dual language immersion begins!

Transportation Once student lists have been established, the district will work to set up transportation for those students who will need to ride the bus in order to attend Glenwood.

Older Students The DLI Program will only be available to kindergarten students in 2017. Each year another grade level will be added. Parents may request that older siblings transfer to Glenwood and requests will be considered as space is available in the desired grade levels.

Spanish Language Arts All reading and writing instruction will be in Spanish for both English- and Spanish- speaking students in the primary grades. The District is currently reviewing Spanish Language Arts programs to determine the best materials for the program. Sample materials are available to review.

Important Dates! February 1st - kindergarten enrollment begins, applications for DLI program available March 24th - last day to submit DLI application in order to be included in the lottery March 31st - lottery held, if needed April 28th - deadline for parents of selected students to commit to program May 2017 and August required parent meetings for all participating families August, first day of school!
