2 DeKalb Community Service Board
Innovative, community-based behavioral health and developmental disabilities services organization offering a full range of mental health services, developmental disabilities programs and substance abuse treatment. DeKalb CSB operates more than 20 locations in DeKalb County. Child and Adolescent Services: Comprehensive program for children and adolescents suffering from both mental health issues and substance abuse. Youth between the ages of 3-18 are eligible if assessed and determined to have a diagnosis which indicates emotional disturbance, mood disorder, behavioral disorder or some combination of these categories.

4 Mental Health Outpatient Services
Ages 3 through adulthood Comprehensive mental health services including: Individual, group, and family therapy Psychiatric assessment and treatment Nursing services On site pharmacy for medication Community support services 4 locations: Winn Way, Kirkwood, Clifton Springs and North DeKalb (WW, Clifton Springs, and North DeKalb see 18 and under) Current groups: Anger management Relationship coping skills Mood disorders C&A ADHD Adolescent Parenting skills

5 Crisis Services Crisis Stabilization Unit:
Short-term psychiatric stabilization and detoxification services and is designated as an emergency receiving and evaluation facility for adults that may need involuntary admission. 18 and older only Accessed by walking in or referral from hospital or clinic Mobile Crisis Response (in home/community) staffed by DeKalb Regional Crisis Center psychiatric nurses who ride with DeKalb County police officers to respond to calls related to mental health and substance abuse issues.

6 Adult Substance Use Services
SA Assessment SA focused treatment including group, individual and family counseling; skill building, education, random urine drug screening, and case management in a structured, clinical setting.  Intensive outpatient treatment including: Group and individual therapy, psychiatric treatment, Pharmacotherapeutic interventions, drug screens, HIV testing & counseling, Pharmacy Services 12-step (NA, AA & Double Trouble),  Secular Organization for Sobriety (SOS) and SMART Recovery meetings on site Day Intensive Outpatient: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 9 am to 12:30 pm Evening Intensive Outpatient: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 5 pm to 8:20 pm

7 C&A Substance Abuse Treatment
Assessment Individual therapy sessions using Motivational Enhancement Therapy with an addictions counselor Weekly group therapy sessions including: SA Education Refusal skills & role play Enhancing a support network Planning for emergencies/coping with relapse Anger management/Awareness Communication skills Coping with cravings & managing thoughts about SA Managing depression & negative thinking Conjoint family session including SA education, relapse signs, discipline, boundaries & communication Weekly drug Testing/Planning for the future

8 Emerging Adult Support services
TARGET POPULATION: Ages 16 to 26 Assessed and determined to have a diagnosis indicating emotional disturbance, substance abuse, behavioral disorder or some combination.  PROGRAM: Promotes recovery and independence Builds on participant’s strengths and community supports Improves functioning at home, at school, at work, in the community and throughout life. Provides community outreach and education Increases collaboration to meet the multiple and complex needs of emerging adults with serious mental health conditions and their families. The GROW group implements elements of leadership training and self advocacy, job skills training and linkages The CPS-CARES actively works with the EASS participants to keep them engaged including meeting them where they are in the community, providing extra support and serving as a living example of recovery.

9 Prevention and Early Intervention Program
Program for people who are or may be experiencing the early stages of psychosis. Prevention: for those who are experiencing new or worsening changes in thoughts, feelings, or behavior that may be signs of risk for developing a mental illness. Early intervention: adolescents and young adults (14+) who have recently developed a psychotic episode. When young people receive prompt, focused treatment involving both experts and loved ones, they can make better, more complete, and longer lasting recoveries Focused on maintaining a young person’s: Educational and work ability Peer and family relationships Recovery from recent changes in mental health Motivation, energy, and self-esteem Physical well-being Individualized treatment planning with an experienced clinician Coordination/liaison with schools Outpatient services with additional: Multifamily groups to help you learn from experts and other families Guidance in accessing benefits

10 Community Support Services
Psycho-social Rehabilitation: We teach rehabilitative skills for functional improvement, such as: Personal Hygiene, Organization for Household Tasks, Wellness and Nutrition, Coping Skills and Emotional Management, Illness Education, Medication Management Adult Case Management: We make referrals and linkage to community resources , such as: Housing and Utility Assistance, Finance Management, SSI/Disability, Food, Healthcare, Transportation, Education, Employment Addictive Disease Support Services : We teach replace prevention skills to assist in maintaining recovery, such as: Developing Natural Supports , Coping Skills and Symptom Management, Communication and Interpersonal Skills Child & Adolescent CSI: We provide rehabilitative, environmental, and resource coordination such as: Behavior Management, Illness Education, Liaison with Schools for IEP Development, Parenting Skills

11 Crossroads Peer Support Program
18 and older only Peer Support: Recovery focused certified peer services to develop strengths and abilities. Group activities offered to help peers improve and maintain their recovery as well as the skills they need to live more independently including: Creative expressions group (artwork, relaxation) Administrative Unit (copying, typing, calculating, clerical skills) Snack bar work unit (food services, cash register) Advocacy component (MH education & advocacy) Kirkwood community thrift store (business development) Community integration (social skills in community) Supported Employment: Evidenced based practice that helps people with mental illness find competitive jobs in the communities with job search and placement services. Mental health case manager and supported employment specialist provide a vocational assessment to assist clients with identifying jobs best suited for their skills, interests, and abilities. Receive specialized training in writing, computer skills & interviewing.

12 Residential Services 18 and older only
Provides permanent housing for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness who present with symptoms and behaviors that contribute to homelessness. Teaches independent living skills to manage symptoms of mental illnesses and maintain stable housing. Provides integrated therapeutic, rehabilitative, skill building and recovery promoting services to gain skills needed to return to natural community settings. Provides weekly case management services within the individual’s home.

13 Psychosocial Rehabilitation
18 and older only Day program M-F 9-2pm Provides clients with severe, persistent mental illness recovery focused assistance with skill development and/or resource needs in two or more areas of life: Living (money management, meal planning, nutrition, self-care and health improvement Learning (illness and medication management, coping skills and assertiveness) Social (relationship and leadership development, communication and community engagement) Vocational (job skills development, time management and leisure skills)

15 Making an Appointment All individuals seeking treatment make a first time “intake” appointment by calling our Central Access line at An “Intake” will be scheduled at Winn Way our central location at 445 Winn Way Decatur, GA 30030 The individual/family will then be assigned a therapist and doctor at either Winn Way or one of our other locations. Any individual being discharged from detention or a hospital will receive an urgent appointment. All non urgent intake appointments are scheduled within hours and follow up appointments within 3 days after the intake.

Call central access ( ) to make an appointment, no referral is needed How much are services? If a client has one of the accepted insurance options, insurance will be billed If the client does not have insurance, payment is based on income Can I just walk in? Anyone can walk into our main facility Winn Way to speak with someone from central access and get an appointment scheduled. After completing an intake, clients can walk in to see their doctor or therapist at any time. How soon can they see a psychiatrist?
