4. German Regulations Main requirements
Possession and transport of HASS requires a licence granted by competent authorities = regulatory authorities of the federal states (16 States “Bundesländer”)
Obligation to take back a HASS by the manufacturer
Financial precautions
Registration of all HASS in a central register operated by the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS)
Data are communicated electronically via secure connections
HASS Register manages information between - Iicensees - local state authorities and - central administration at BfS

5. HASS Definition
(according to COUNCIL DIRECTIVE 2003/122/EURATOM and German StrlSchV):
sealed radioactive source whose activity corresponds or exceeds 1% of the A1 value
for the respective radionuclide
