Center for Applied Cybernetics: Platform for Industry 4
Center for Applied Cybernetics: Platform for Industry 4.0 Research Vladimír Kučera Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics, and Cybernetics Czech Technical University, Prague German-Czech Workshop on Industrie 4.0/Průmysl 4.0 Prague, April 11, 2016
2
The Importance of Research Integration
Before the Velvet Revolution of 1989: an institutional funding only, research centrally organized and supervised. After, grant agencies emerged (Academy of Sciences, Czech Science Foundation). Small projects (1 M CZK/year), individual proposals. Advantage: research freedom Disadvantage: fragmented research, absence of priority programs. Czech Technical University, Prague 2016
3
The Importance of Research Integration
Late 1990s: first research programs formulated, sector by sector (Education, Health, Industry, Commerce, Military) Ministry of Education: Program „Support of Research at Universities“ (15 M CZK/year), Examples at Czech Technical University, Prague: Gerstner Laboratory (Vladimír Mařík), Center for Machine Perception (Václav Hlaváč), Trnka Laboratory (Vladimír Kučera) Czech Technical University, Prague 2016
4
The Importance of Research Integration
Ministry of Education: Program „Applied Research Centers“ (30 M CZK/year) An example at Czech Technical University, Prague: Center for Applied Cybernetics , 11 partners from academia and high-tech companies, continuation , 13 partners. Advantage: long term research program, stability of teams Disadvantage: fragmented by sectors. Czech Technical University, Prague 2016
5
The Importance of Research Integration
The creation of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic achieves a further concentration of funds. Research programs Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, Omega, and the Competence Centers. An example at Czech Technical University, Prague: Center for Applied Cybernetics , (60 M CZK/year), 17 partners. Czech Technical University, Prague 2016
6
Center for Applied Cybernetics
Thanks to a long term systematic effort, the project includes the most important players nationwide: Czech Technical University Prague, Brno Institute of Technology, West Bohemian University Pilsen, Technical University of Ostrava and 13 large, medium, and small high-tech companies. Center for Applied Cybernetics is the only competence center in the Czech Republic in the field of Applied Cybernetics and effectively has created a national platform in that field. Czech Technical University, Prague 2016

Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics, and Cybernetics
The Center for Applied Cybernetics has joined the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics, and Cybernetics – a new research unit of Czech Technical University – in order to help to establish a critical research mass. The good practices developed and experience acquired by the Center of Applied Cybernetics are followed when forming new teams and making new research proposals. Czech Technical University, Prague 2016

Industry 4.0 The concept of Industry 4.0 is based on cybernetic principles, it integrates the cybernetic virtuality with the physical reality. The platform created by Center for Applied Cybernetics is ready to respond to the challenges of this initiative. We do have an experetise in most of the key technologies that are vital for the successful implementation of the Industry 4.0 Revolution. Czech Technical University, Prague 2016
