Grasslands By: Haleigh, Avery and Natalie Natalie

2 Grassland biomes are large, rolling terrains of grasses, flowers and herbs. The plants that grow in a each specific grassland is dependent upon latitude (distance above or below the equator), soil quality, and local weather. A grassland is a region where the average annual precipitation is great enough to support grasses, and in some areas a few trees, but follows in drought. NATALIE

3 Savannah Grasslands Avery

4 Savannah Regions- Large areas in Australia, South Africa, India and almost half of Africa is covered in savannah grasslands. Avery

5 Savanna Grassland Climate-
Savanna Grassland Climate- The Savanna Grasslands has a temperature range of 68° to 86° F (20° - 30° C). In the winter, it is usually about 68° to 78° F (20° - 25° C). During the wet season(May to November),the annual rainfall on average amounts to 50.8 to 127 cm (20-50 inches) per year. The rain all comes within a 6-8 month period, leaving the rest of the year in drought. If Savannah Grasslands had their rain spread out through the year, it would become a tropical rainforest. 10 Temperate Grasslands Regions-
Temperate Grasslands Regions- Veldts of Africa, The Pampas of South America, The Steppes of Eurasia, and the prairies of North America. Temperate grasslands are commonly in between forests and desert biomes. AVERY

11 Temperate Climate- Temperate grasslands have hot summers and cold winters. Summer temperatures can be over a 90℉ for a long period of time, which is not uncommon for temperate grasslands. The winters can be as low as -40℉. They usually have between inches of precipitation, mostly happening in late spring and summer. There are frequent fires in all grassland biomes, as well as a steady amount of droughts so trees don’t overpower the land. HALEIGH

Temperate Grassland Fauna -Dominant grazing animals include bison and pronghorn. Rodents include pocket gophers and prairie dogs. Carnivores include wolves, coyotes, swift foxes, badgers and black-footed ferrets. Birds include grouses, meadowlarks, quails, sparrows, hawks and owls. natalie

14 Temperate Grassland Flora-
Temperate Grassland Flora-. A few trees such as cottonwoods, oaks and willows grow in river valleys, and a few hundred species of flowers grow among the grasses. The various species of grasses include purple needlegrass, blue grama, buffalo grass, and galleta. Flowers include asters, blazing stars, coneflowers, goldenrods, sunflowers. Avery
