3 2018 Graduation Requirements
Subject Graduation Requirement for Class of 2017 English Language Arts (ELA) 4 Math 3 Science 2 (labs) Social Studies Health & Fitness 2.5 Career and Technical Education (CTE) 1 Fine Arts General Electives 5 High School & Beyond Plan (Advisory) Pass SBA ELA, Math Exam & Science EOC Total Credits 22.5 Kim If students did not take or did not pass Economics in 9th grade, they may take Sociology, Psychology, or AP Psychology. Economics, World Studies, US Studies, and Civics equal the 3 credits of Social Studies required to graduate. Advisory is a graduation requirement so encourage students to complete their work and pass the class! If students do not pass the Biology End of Course Assessment this school year, they may be placed in a science class.

6 Advanced Placement (AP)
Opportunity to take college level classes in high school AP Courses: World History, Psychology, US History, US Government & Politics, Language & Composition, Literature & Composition, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Calculus, Computer Principles AP students will take an AP test in May Interested students must read and sign the AP contract by March1st or will be taken out of the course. Scores of 3, 4, or 5 may earn college credit AP is a predictor of completion of a 4-year college degree Don’t take too many AP classes! Malissa

9 Two for One Requirements
CTE courses may count for other requirements in addition to the CTE requirement. (But sill only count for ct) EXAMPLES: Course Requirement 1 Requirement 2 JROTC CTE Physical Fitness Nutrition and Fitness Physical Fitness or Health Principles of Bio-Med Lab Science or Health Intro To Eng. Design Fine Art Malissa Explain how some CTE courses may be counted as a CTE requirement as well as a second requirement as outlined in the course catalog. Course may only count for two requirements. One of the requirements must be CTE. Some courses may also be counted as college credit for students who qualify. Check with the teacher. Dual Credit Earn college credit by taking CTE courses at BHS (9th – 12th grades). Free college credit!

Use your BHS Course Offerings List (page 2 of your Course Selection Paper) for courses available to BHS students. Career Cruising Course Hand Book only has BHS courses offered. 11 English Language Arts 12 (ENG 401/402)
Grade Level: 12 Credit: English Language Arts 1.0 NCAA approved This year-long course emphasizes career and college readiness in reading, writing, speaking and listening, and use of language. Students will read works of exceptional craft and thought that serve as models for students’ own thinking and writing with greater independence and flexibility. They will demonstrate their ability to examine of seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth century foundational documents of historical and literary significance, including how two or more texts from the same period treat similar themes or topics. Students will contribute meaningfully to a variety of collaborative structures, developing adaptability in various situations. Students will write routinely over short and extended time frames for a range of increasingly complex writing tasks, purposes, and audiences, and will be required to gather relevant evidence from multiple authoritative sources. An extended research paper is required. Students work toward meeting standard on the Common Core grade specific standards. Tori Examples of what a course descriptions looks like. Pre-Calculus (MTH 251/252) Grade Level: 9,10, 11, 12 Credit: Mathematics, or Elective 1.0 / NCAA approved Prerequisite: Advanced Algebra with a grade of a “C” or better or teacher approval. This course will emphasize functions algebraically and graphically. Linear, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic models will be applied to the real world. Additional topics may include matrices, vectors, parametric equations, polar coordinates and limits. Graphing calculators are used throughout the course to visualize, verify and analyze problem solving strategies and solutions (TI-83 strongly recommended).

English Language Arts (ELA) or AP Literature & Composition Math &/or Science (recommended) World Studies or AP World Studies Elective Tori This is the recommended course of study for 12th grade students.

14 Advisory (All students will take advisory for a pass/fail .125 credits per semester.) Students will begin a college and/or career training plan, in order to explore post-graduation educational options. Over the course of a students High School career, all students utilize Career Cruising to develop their High School and Beyond Plan which is required for graduation. Career Cruising engages student in self exploration to help them reach their full potential in school, career and life. Tori

Make sure to choose alternate courses. Refer to Page 2 for Courses offered YOU MUST HAVE A PARENT/GUARDIAN SIGNATURE ON YOUR FORM PRIOR TO TURNING IT IN!!!!! Counselors will choose courses for students who have not turned in completed forms. Lori Show students the alternate section at the bottom of the form. Students should choose 4 alternate classes if their first choices are not available or do not fit into their schedule.
