Christianity This is a monotheistic religion and is centered on the belief in Jesus as the Son of God. Christ – from the Greek word “christos” meaning “anointed” or messiah

Christianity Jesus was a Jew born in Bethlehem, in modern day Israel
According to the Gospels, Jesus was born to Mary, who was a virgin Grew up in the city of Nazareth Jesus’ teachings emphasized spiritual equality, appealing mostly to women and the poor Nazareth Bethlehem

Islam Islam means “Submission to God”
Founded by Muhammed, born c. 570 AD Raised by his uncle At the age of 40, Muhammed has a dream and the angel Gabriel appears to him at Mecca

Islam Gabriel says he has been chosen by God to be a prophet
Continues to give him revelations, the basis of the Koran or Qur’an Develops a few followers, but his message of one God, Allah, and of helping those less fortunate alienates people

Islam An assassination attempt causes him to flee to Medina
A war develops between his followers in Medina and an army from Mecca His group wins, and they return to Mecca He says no further “jihads” or struggles or war Dies in 632 AD He never claimed to be a messiah, just a prophet sent by God to complete (and correct) God’s message

He revealed the Torah to Moses as a guide to life Still waiting for the Messiah It is more about practices…doing right or wrong in the eyes of God
