Grade Recovery If you made a 70 or less you are REQUIRED to do the test recovery. You can get up to 100% on the multiple choice section. If you are unhappy with your grade you can do test recovery. The recovered grade will NOT replace the quiz grades from the unit.

You must explain in detail why the answer you chose was incorrect and why the correct answer is correct. Honors: You must explain in detail why the 3 wrong answer choices are incorrect and why the correct answer is correct.

Example Christians believe that Jesus was sent by God to save humanity from its sins. What title does Christianity give Jesus? A) Messiah, B) Aryan, C) Jihadist, D) Veda A is correct because the Christians believe that Jesus was sent by God to save humanity and the followers of Christianity call him the Messiah. B is incorrect because an Aryan is someone who came and conquered the Indus River Valley bringing the Hinduism culture and religion, this is not related to Christianity. C is incorrect because a jihadist is a Muslim that is experiencing an internal struggle with God and their religion of Islam, this is not related to Christianity. D is incorrect because the Veda is the holy book of Hindus and unrelated to Christianity.

248 CE split the Roman Empire to Western and Eastern each with its own emperor Constantine was the emperor of the East and established a new Roman Empire capital Constantinople Rome fell but the East and West were different during the falls. Diocletian moved a great deal of the Romans empire money to the eastern part

Division of Rome The Western Roman Empire (Europe/North Africa) included the city of Rome. The Eastern Roman Empire (Turkey/parts of Asia) included the city of Byzantium.

Constantine - East Constantine followed after Diocletian as emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire. Constantine rebuilt the old Greek port of Byzantium, at the entrance to the Black Sea. He renamed it Constantinople and made the city the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. Present day Istanbul, Turkey aka New Rome

The Age of Charlemagne - West
Around 800 CE Western Europe was briefly unified. A Christian pope proclaimed Charlemagne “Emperor of the Romans” reviving the idea of a unified Christian world It widened the split between Eastern and Western Christianity Why would this unification of the west widen the split of the east and west? Rome and Christianity We will be coming back to talk about Charlemagne shortly after an activity.

Your Tasks You will need a Yellow Text Book (pg. 215) Independently you will complete the “interview with Charlemagne” handout When you are done, you will get with a partner and do the interview out loud (one person will be the interviewer and the other Charlemagne) Stay on task Stay focused You may listen to music with head phones Complete the front only then find a partner. When you are done speaking through the interview you will go back and work independently on the rest of the book questions.
