Project Aim To develop the capacity of Ho Polytechnic to develop and deliver engineering courses by distance learning for existing and potential employees of the process industries

Outputs A unit of staff within Ho Polytechnic with the knowledge of the systems required to administer distance learning course. Ho Polytechnic staff trained in the writing of distance learning materials Ho Polytechnic staff trained in the tutoring of students 'at a distance'. Ho Polytechnic staff trained in the assessment of distance learning students.

Outcomes Ho Polytechnic have the ability to offer engineering courses in a flexible/blended delivery mode. An improved relationship between Ho Polytechnic and the process industries. An established link between Ho Polytechnic and Teesside University

Visit to the UK- Nov 2009 Rector; HoD-Mech Eng;Local Coordinator (STKDzokoto) and Mr. Donani (mech Eng) To explore the working of distance learning unit (COLU) of the UoT To discuss with UoT Management the future collaboration To visit some UK establishments associated with running UoT courses

Findings COLU is willing to allow Ho Poly to run some of its courses
MoU to be signed Mech Eng. will prepare students for the Oil &Gas and Process industry.

2ND VISIT TO TEESSIDE UNIVERSITY (NOV - DEC 2010)
Four member delegation including the Vice Rector; Local Coordinator; Ag Registrar and HoD Elect. visited the Teesside Univ. between 27th Nov. and 4th December, 2010 To finalise the agreements between the two institutions in order to kick start the program for the 2010/2011 academic year

Ho Poly to get Edexcel registration(via local agent Entry Requirements QA Manual Ethics Policy, all to UoT COLU operational Manual to Ho Poly MARKETING/PUBLICITY UoT to prepare : Posters Leaflets/brochures Pull up stands etc Using both institutions’ photographs and logos Develop website for the programme

Project Outcomes to Date
Ho Poly staff successfully developed four distance learning modules Memorandum of agreement for delivery of Teesside Uni courses Ho Polytechnic staff trained in ‘distance learning skills’. Established lines of communication between Ho staff and Teesside University staff Ho Polytechnic have enhanced relationship with oil process industries Awareness of Teesside Uni staff about Ghana raised

Establishment of COLU centre in Ho Poly(space available) Ho Poly drafted application form and brochure to be sent to industries and to the populace Advert in print and electronic media and banners to be made.

Ho Polytechnic and Teesside University to fulfil immediate identified requirements UK visit to Ho Polytechnic – Mechanical and Electrical Eng + Dissemination Ho Polytechnic to advertise and run distance learning engineering courses. Ho Polytechnic and Teesside university cooperate on the delivery of other courses UK accredited courses in Ghana ?
