Three-Dimensional Figures
Representations of Three-Dimensional Figures Draw Isometric Views – Isometric dot paper can be used to draw isometric views, or corner views, of a three-dimensional object on two-dimensional paper. Example 1: Use isometric dot paper to sketch a triangular prism 3 units high, with two sides of the base that are 3 units long and 4 units long.
3
Sketch each solid using isometric dot paper.
a) cube with 4 units on each side b) rectangular prism 1 unit high, 5 units long, and 4 units wide
4
Orthographic Drawing The top view indicates two columns. The right and left views indicate that the height of figure is three blocks. The front view indicates that the columns have heights 2 and 3 blocks. Example 2: Use isometric dot paper and the orthographic drawing to sketch a solid.
5
Sketch each solid using isometric dot paper.

Example 3: Describe each cross section.
Cross Sections The intersection of a solid and a plane is called a cross section of the solid. The shape of a cross section depends upon the angle of the plane. Example 3: Describe each cross section.
