Types of Data Values Labels Dates and times
Excel identifies the type of data and formats it.

A Value is a Number Whole numbers Fractions Decimals
Numbers align to the right. If you see ##### instead of numbers you must increase the width of the column.

A Label is a text or combination of text and numbers
Labels align to the left Usually used for headings or explanations You can widen the column or use wordrap to see entire text

Dates and Times Dates and times are typed in the format you choose i.e. 08/8/2007 August 8, 2007 Aug. 8, 2007

Autofill This is the same as in Word. However, in Excel if you have a sequence in numbers i.e. 1,2,3 you can highlight the three numbers and drag from the bottom right corner and it will automatically fill the rest of the sequence for the remaining cells

Edit Move/Copy Remove Format

Edit Data Click Cell Type Changes Click Enter

Move or Copying Data Cut or copy to new cell or
Select cell and drag content to new cell

Remove Data Select cell and click delete or
Go to Edit menu and select delete

Creating a Chart or Graph
Select cells that have the data you want to graph Choose command for creating chart Select type of chart desired

Saving and Printing a Worksheet
File menu (ALWAYS save before printing) You can select a section or whole worksheet to print. To select a section of the worksheet highlight the desired cells to be printed. Click on File and select ‘Print Area’ and set print area. When done select Print Area and Clear Print Area.

Column Headings When you have a column that will extend to other pages you can repeat the heading on each page.
