1 Creative Creature Paper Art in 3D Form

2 Lesson Objectives In this lesson, you will be able to:
apply symmetrical balance in the art making. create 3D paper art using tearing, folding and crumpling techniques. appreciate the artworks created by local artist, the Frog King - Kwok Mang Ho.

3 What do we need? White paper Stapler Staple 1 2 3

4 What can we do with paper?
Shape Form

5 What can we do with paper?
What is this? (Paper) What can we use this paper for? How can we use it?

6 How many ways can we work with paper?
1. Folding 2. Crumpling (Fold) (Crumple) 3. Rolling 4. Twisting (Roll) (Twist)

7 How can we create a 3D paper art?
Let’s think about the following: What are your feelings about the paper? (What do you think about the paper’s colour, texture or how heavy it is?) What can you hear when you tear off paper? What do you observe when tearing the paper?

8 Examples of Animals

9 What is symmetrical balance?
What can you notice in this paper art? Is the left hand side the same as the right hand side? If they are the same, it is symmetrical. We called this symmetrical balance. The images on the left and right sides are the same.

10 Where can we find symmetrical balance?

11 Q. Is this symmetrically balanced?
The images on the left and right sides are almost the same.

12 Why do we create symmetrical balance?
Balance is the distribution of the visual weight of objects, colors, textures, and space. If the design was a scale, these elements should be balanced to make a design feel stable. Equal visual weight feels stable

13 Q. How can it become symmetrically balanced?

14 Q. How can it become symmetrically balanced?
We create the same image on the right side.

15 Let’s create an imaginative creature!
Your creature should be: an animal that does not exist in the real world. in 3D form. made with tearing, folding and/or crumpling techniques. able to show symmetrical balance

16 Let’s imagine… +

17 Example of an Imaginative Creature
When the left and right sides of an image are the same, the image is symmetrically balanced.
