2 Where to find EndNote Endnote for a Tutorial & Download links
Go to Under “Referencing software” choose Endnote for a Tutorial & Download links

3 Read the Download instructions and
Click on PC to start the Download. (Use the MAC link for Mac computers) Read the Download instructions and Click on PC to start the Download

4 Save the .zip file somewhere on your computer

5 Double click on . zip folder

6 Save the extract files to a destination folder.
Save both the .msi file and the license.dat file in the destination folder. (Your license number is included in the licence.dat folder)

7 Close all MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook & PowerPoint).
Click on .msi file. Click on Install (Installation won’t be successful if license.dat is not in the same folder as the .msi file)

8 Click on Run

9 Follow installation instructions
Once the installation is "Finished", you may delete the files you saved earlier to your Desktop (EndnoteX701UPSL10324.zip, EndnoteX7Inst.msi and License.dat files). You are now ready to start using the Endnote X7 Software. You will find a shortcut to EndNote X7 under Start, All Programs, EndNote. Alternatively, use the Endnote icon on the desktop:

10 Create a New Library to add your references
Click on File. Click on New Name your new Library and select the correct folder Click on Save

11 Compiling your database
CAB Abstracts, Medline, Zoological Record (Web of Science) Science Direct Wildlife & Ecology Studies Worldwide (Ebscohost) Biological Abstracts (Proquest) WorldCat Discovery (new catalogue of UP) Pubmed (search from within Refworks) ISAP (Sabinet ) Google Scholar Manually (adding references by hand)

12 CAB Abstracts Endnote

13 Click on the dropdown arrow and select Save to Endnote Desktop
Do a search on CAB Abstracts and select the references to export

14 Decide which elements must form part of your database and click on Send

15 Your first time use of Endnote might lead to this screen
Use the drop down arrow and select Other

16 From the displayed menu select Endnote

17 Endnote is displayed in the window and you may continue by clicking on OK

18 The exported references displayed in Endnote

19 To copy references to groups or libraries:
Select references to be moved/copied Click on References Select Copy references to Choose the Library

20 References have been moved to the correct Library

21 Science Direct EndNote

22 Do a search on Science Direct and select the references to be exported
Click on “Export ”

23 Click on “RIS ” Click on Export

24 Select EndNote if available otherwise select other and search for EndNote

25 To copy references to groups or libraries:
Select references to be moved/copied Click on References Select Copy references to Choose the Library

27 Do a search and select some of the records by clicking on “Add to folder” icon

28 Once you started adding items the Folder icon will change and a list of the added items will appear in the right hand column

29 To view the list of selected records
click on “Folder” or “Folder view”

30 Select records to be exported
To export the selected results click on Export

31 1. Select the “Direct Export in RIS Format” button
2. Click on “Save”

32 To copy references to groups or libraries:
Select references to be moved/copied Click on References Select Copy references to Choose the Library

34 Do a search on Biological Abstracts and select the references to export
Click on Save

35 From this dropdown menu select RIS
ENDNOTE From this dropdown menu select RIS

36 Check the displayed information and click on Continue

37 Check that it is going to EndNote and click on OK

38 To copy references to groups or libraries:
Select references to be moved/copied Click on References Select Copy references to Choose the Library

39 WorldCat Discovery new Library Catalogue EndNote

40 Supply search terms in search
window and enter

41 To view the list of selected records
Login to Refworks and click on Search. Select Online Catalogue or Database To view the list of selected records click on “My List” Select some of the records by clicking on the icon

42 Select records to be exported
Select “Cite Record”

43 Select “Cite with Endnote”

44 To copy references to groups or libraries:
Select references to be moved/copied Click on References Select Copy references to Choose the Library

46 1. Click on Tools 2. Select Online Search

48 Add authors / keywords / titles etc.
Click on Search

49 From the list of results select the references to be added to your Endnote Library.
Click on References , Select Copy References to, and select the correct Endnote Library

52 Depending on the Reference managing software you are using, select either Endnote of Refworks.

Remember to SAVE the reference after editing
