Science Weekly Review
The students were given a sample student experiment on pendulums and explained how the student failed to control the variables. Students were then given a challenge to create a pendulum that would keep second time. Students used their knowledge from previous experiments and most were successful. We ended the unit with a review and test.

10/11 Introduction to the triple beam balance scale
10/12 Introduction to reading a graduated cylinder
10/13 Students will begin The Lifejacket Challenge. The Big Question for this investigation is: How can an understanding of density help to design a life jacket?
10/14 The students will view a cartoon and will discuss the differences.
Social Studies With Ms. Hall
This Week
Students have been very busy researching a climate zone of their choice for the Eastern Hemisphere. They chose their partner or had the option of working alone if they felt more comfortable. They had to decide which of the eight climate zones; ice cap, tundra, highlands, humid subtropical, Mediterranean, arid, semiarid, or tropical.
Their completed project must contain the zone’s climate, characteristics, location in the Eastern Hemisphere, animals, vegetation, the impact humans have had on the area, and any other interesting facts they find. They have been using the computer lab to research their area.
Their final project can be a PowerPoint, diorama, or a poster.
Next Week
There will be a short quiz on Tuesday. Information they need to study are: latitude, longitude and scale mapping. Students will also continue working on their projects.

Week in Review
This week students have started Topic C, where they are building further on their understanding of ratios and the value of a ratio as they come to understand that a ratio of 5 miles to 2 hours corresponds to a rate of 2.5 miles per hour, where the unit rate is the numerical part of the rate, 2.5, and miles per hour is the newly formed unit of measurement of the rate (rate unit) (6.RP.2).

ELA Next Week
Next week students will continue to analyze and respond to the poem IF by Rudyard Kipling. Students will have to identify the rhyme scheme pattern, structure, and theme of this poem. You can find this module at:

    *All students are required to read at least three AR books every marking period. One of these books has to be based on Social Studies.
The first AR book and quiz is due on October 12, 2016.
This week students continued their study of the novel Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis with chapters Students are reading the novel closely for its figurative language, word choice, and analyzing how these affect the tone and meaning of the text. We also began to analyze and respond to the poem IF by Rudyard Kipling.
