Good Afternoon. My name is Teresa Adams. I am Director of the Midwest Transportation Workforce Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and I welcome you to our webinar: Industry and Colleges: Partnerships for Successful Registered Apprenticeship Programs. This webinar is part 3 or our 3 part series designed to help kick-start the creation of Apprenticeship Programs in the transportation sector.

3 About the Midwest Transportation Workforce Center
Vision The MTWC aims to make the transportation industry an in-demand sector for job seekers so that it offers pathways for all occupations, and becomes a first-choice industry for the next generation. For those who are not familiar with the MTWC, we are one of five centers funded by the Federal Highway Administration to facilitate innovation and strategic partnership approaches to transportation workforce development. The five centers work together as the National Network for the Transportation Workforce.

Director of Allied Health Education and Career Pathways at UW Health Founder of the Health Occupations and Professions Exploration (HOPE) program that serves underrepresented high school and college students. The Allied Health Education and Career Pathways team is focused on building a diverse future healthcare workforce through education and training opportunities for both youth and adults that promote finding careers and employment in healthcare. UW Health is an Employer Partner in the HIRE Initiative and in that role currently works with the Urban League, Centro Hispano, Madison Urban Ministry and the YWCA in providing programs that prepare adults for employment at UW Health. 7 Program Objectives To address both workforce shortages and lack of diversity in health care. To increase organizational cultural competence at all levels of the organization. To increase public awareness of variety of careers in health care. HOPE Website:

8 Organizational Cultural Competence
Defined: Our workforce is demographically representative of our patient population. Nationally: People of color are significantly under-represented in the health professions nationally: 10.5% Black / African American (13-15% of general population) 9.2% Asian (11-12% of general population) 7.3% Hispanic / Latino (15 – 17% of general population) (Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Census Bureau, 2015) At UW Health People of color are under-represented in UW Health workforce 3.69% Black / African American (4.96% of Dane County Population) 2.59% Hispanic / Latino ( 6.10% of Dane County Population and growing) 5.01% Asian (5.19%of Dane County Population)
