Building on the Field of Integrated Student Supports
What are Integrated Student Supports? Integrated student supports (ISS) are a school-based approach to promoting students’ academic success by developing or securing and coordinating supports that target academic and non-academic barriers to achievement. - Child Trends, 2014 The CIS model engages the practice of Integrated Student Supports, which is focused on the provision and/or coordination of services aimed at removing both academic and non-academic barriers to achievement and long-term success. A recent report indicates that this practice of providing wrap-around services is showing significant promise in helping children living in poverty achieve in school. Child Trends released a report in 2014 that identifies CIS as the national leader in this work, with 1.2 million of the 1.5 million students served across the U.S. being served by Communities In Schools. In North Carolina, we represent over 200,000 of those students.
