Objective 1 : Encourage and promote sustainable travel networks Policies: walk and cycle friendly neighbourhoods a connected town for pedestrians and cyclists travel by bus travel to school travel plans and monitoring (residential and workplace) Question – should we apply policy ‘a connected town for pedestrians and cyclists’ to developments that are smaller than ‘significant’ (as defined in glossary)? © Bishop’s Stortford Town Council

Objective 5 : Improve town centre access and connectivity Policies : Not fully worded yet but will look to secure the following transport improvements for the town centre: Sufficient and secure cycle parking particularly at station and other key destinations Widened and upgraded all weather tow path (leisure and utility use) Barrier free movement/desire line pedestrian routes and corridors that ‘connect’ town centre destinations, including Sworders field(NP1), the river, station, Rhodes centre etc. Parking spaces available to commuters, shoppers and town centre workers that are accessible from the south Sufficient parking spaces Riverside promenade spaces Continued…….. © Bishop’s Stortford Town Council

Shared space/pedestrianisation/improved public realm Deliveries and HGV’s – proposals and conditions that impose weight limits and times of day restrictions for deliveries Access and movement for all Modern well designed passenger friendly transport interchange/hub and gateway to the town Accessible, easy to reach, easy to use environment Accessible, up-to-to date/real time information that is well positioned and accessible remotely/through electronic devices Safe, well lit environment Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) e.g. ‘dynamic bus stand allocation Retail features incorporated into the design to make it an attractive place to wait for a train, bus or taxi etc. plus a destination in its own right Clear sightlines with much of the interchange structure made of large panels of clear toughened glass so as to enhance the users perceptions of personal security © Bishop’s Stortford Town Council
