Novell delivers leadership in Net services through a “marketecture” called the Net Service Software Model.
Last year we referred to the DENIM model as our Net Services Software marketecture model. We are no longer using the term “DENIM”, but are calling the model the “Net Services Software Model”. The Net Services Software Model is used as a marketecture to help explain how our products align in the Net Services Software strategy and how Novell delivers leadership in Net services.
The above graphic shows four layers of the Net Services Software Model.
Layer 1: The first layer is showing the various Server Operating Systems that eDirectory runs on. One of the attributes of the Net Services Software model (next slide) talks about the cross-platform nature of our services. This layer is intended to graphically show this attribute. Additionally, when we show services or solutions (see later slides) we can use this layer to show the supported operating systems.
Layer 2: This layer shows eDirectory as the Platform for Net Services. By developing to the directory, companies will gain the benefits of the Novell promise – namely: Simplify the complexities of the Net; Securely extend and integrate applications and networks between companies; and Accelerate eBusiness transformation.
Layer 3: Shows the key services that our products provide on the Net. This is not intended to show all the services Novell or our partners provide, but to highlight the main product areas of the company. When showing a product, application, or solution, you can show the core services that are employed at this layer (see examples on successive slides) and add addition services to suit your needs (see PRINT added for NetWare, SYNCRONIZATION added for eProvisioning, etc.).
Layer 4: This is the application / solution layer. The model shows the applications and solutions that can be built in the Net Services Softwae Model and which Net services these solutions enable. These apps / solutions range from traditional client server based applications / solutions to emerging Web Services. Web Services is the industry term for the next generation of information delivery to users through location-independent client devices (Microsoft, IBM, Oracle and Sun use this expression. HP calls them e-services). Web services are a type of Net Service that can be built within Novell’s Net Services Software Model.
