When you hear the word "Culture," what do you think about?

Do you think it is possible to speak the same language, but still come from a different culture? Can you provide some examples? When you think of a language such as Spanish, what country first comes to mind?

Family Interview Project
How much do you know about your family's country of origin? Why do you think it is important to know this information? Interview a family member about their heritage

Graphic Organizer Interview Graphic Organizer Introduction:
Tell who you are and where you are from. Introduce your guest. Explain their importance to this interview. Sample questions for interview to a relative (s): Tell me about my relatives/ancestors. What country/ countries did they come from and when? What is my heritage? (African-American, Italian, Korean-American, Mexican-American, etc.) When did our first relatives move to this county, and what path did they take from another country or another part of the United States. What led our family to live in our hometown?

Collaborative Work and Research
You will be paired with a partner whose culture, heritage and/or background is different than yours. Together you will do research about your cultures Using a Venn Diagram graphic organizer, your will compare and contrast your finding (based on your family interview, research and family tree)

Using the iMovie or any other similar program of your choice your will create a ”Digital Story” using ”ALL” the information on your research, including your family trees Your can use the classroom cameras, your Smart Phones, or classroom tablets to record your videos. The Chromebooks will also be available for research, video editing etc.

Assessment and Evaluation
I will hand out a ”Rubric” where you will be provide the goals and objectives for this project, as well as teacher’s expectations. Important areas: Collaboration & Research Family interview along with organizer and family tree Presentations: Be creative, add plenty of visuals (video footage, photos, maps etc.), music, and most importantly a narration. Make sure everyone's contributes to the project equally (including narrations)
