Emperor Shi Huangdi came to power. He assigned governors to each province. He set up a spy system.

He is the builder of the Great Wall of China Wall was built along China’s northern border to keep invaders out. Wall is about 4,500 miles long. Some parts of the wall are 15 to 50 feet high. Peasants built the wall – Many died because of starvation, over work, or disobedience.

Shi Huangdi had many important books burned – including the teachings of Confucius and other important thinkers. The Terra-Cotta Warriors Emperor Qin was buried with over 9000 life-like soldiers made of terra-cotta. Once Emperor Qin died, his son and advisors could not hold the empire together. The Qin Dynasty lasted only 15 years!

Liu Bang He was one of the rebels who helped overthrow the Qin Dynasty. He became the new emperor of the Han Dynasty.

After Wudi, many young emperors ruled. People within the government fought with the young emperors for power. The emperors weakened and warlords took over – a warlord is a leader of an armed group. Cao Pei declared the end of the Han Dynasty and created the Wei Dynasty.
