1 College Application Processing at IHA
Parent Presentation

2 Types of Admission Decisions
Regular Decision Early Decision Early Action Single Choice Early Action Priority Rolling Admissions

3 Components of the Application
A complete college application includes: The Student’s Piece The Counselor’s Piece The Teacher’s Piece

4 The Counselor’s Piece Official transcript Counselor’s recommendation
School Profile

5 The Teacher’s Piece Recommendation Letter Supporting school forms

6 The Student’s Piece Submit a pumpkin sheet to Guidance
Create a common application account Complete & Submit the common application Student Resumes should be uploaded into the common application or sent directly to the colleges/universities Request that SAT/ACT scores be sent directly from College Board & ACT (this can take up to 5 weeks) Update Naviance with all the schools they are applying to

7 Student Emails Be sure they are appropriate!
Be sure the student uses their own ...the IHA is BEST! Be sure the girls are checking their frequently as colleges use this as a main source of communication

8 The College List Be realistic
Be sure to have at least 2 “safer” options Don’t take the “safer” options for granted - the schools know if you aren’t truly interested! If applying to highly selective schools - meeting the GPA and SAT/ACT requirements are still not a guarantee for admission - it will simply give you a second look. Highly selective schools are crafting a class that includes legacies, international students, athletes, first generation students, ethnically and geographically diverse students, students with “out of this world” experiences and talented students in nontraditional areas REMEMBER - THERE IS A RIGHT FIT SCHOOL FOR EVERYONE!

9 The Basics… IHA uses NAVIANCE and The COMMON APPLICATION Your daughter MUST apply through the COMMON APP if a school uses it!! All applications can be tracked through Naviance and Common App Be sure that your daughters have touched base with the teachers they have asked to write their letters of recommendation and make sure they provide them with their deadlines. Coalition app should ONLY be used for University of Florida and University of Maryland.

10 Ready, Set, Go! Your daughter should NOT submit anything to Mrs. Kelly UNTIL their NAVIANCE account is updated with the schools they are applying to they have set up their common app account They completed the Education section of the common application They completed the FERPA waiver in the common application Once the above is done, they need to hand in the PUMPKIN COLORED SHEET and then continue with completing the Common Application

11 Transcript Request Form
This form MUST be submitted!!! No documents will be sent to a college without this form. This form is pumpkin colored and can be submitted for up to 5 colleges that you are applying to at a time. In order for guidance to process all documents ON TIME the girls MUST adhere to the deadline chart YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS IN ORDER TO SUBMIT YOUR PUMPKIN SHEET!!!

12 Now it’s a WAITING GAME After your daughter submits the transcript request form to Mrs. Kelly they must trust that all their information will be sent out within the COLLEGE’s deadline (providing they adhered to the deadline chart) At this point they can track in Naviance when their counselor “sends” their documents and when the school “receives” your documents. Under the “Colleges” tab and click on “Colleges I’m Applying to.” Then click at the top “View Detailed Status.”

13 When your daughter hears a decision from a college they need to...
Update Naviance with the decision (Acceptance, Denial, Wait List, Spring Admit, etc.)

14 Additional Information
Course changes are not recommended once your daughter’s documents are sent to a college OR if a college already pre-reviewed her application for admission as an athlete. First Quarter Grades/Mid-Year Grades - your daughter needs to request that these are sent to the colleges that require them Student Athletes - must be sure to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center & request that their transcript be sent to them. Encourage your daughter to meet with the college reps that visit IHA during locker break and lunch...they are all listed in Naviance. OCTOBER 11th - IHA will be hosting our Financial Aid Evening at 7 p.m. in the PAC
