3 SAFETY RULES PAGE 1 Always wear eye protection!
Make sure that hair is pulled back, and that sleeves are not hanging. DO NOT EAT OR DRINK IN THE LAB! Do only experiments that are instructed by the teacher. Never engaged in HORESEPLAY OR JOKES! Make sure footwear covers ALL of the foot!

4 SAFETY RULES PAGE 2 Avoid inhaling chemical fumes!
Notify the teacher in case of accidents or spills (no matter how trivial they may appear). Do not use the sink to discard matches, filter paper, or insoluble solids. NEVER return chemicals to their original container unless instructed to do so. Never point the end of the test to toward yourself or other faces!

5 SAFETY RULES PAGE 3 Notify the teacher if you spill live bacteria in the laboratory! ALWAYS ADD ACID TO WATER!! Report any broken or damaged equipment. DO NOT ENTER ANY STORAGE OR PREPARTION AREAS MARKED “PRIVATE” OR “KEEP OUT!”

Valid- Based on true facts, true. Irritant- Something that causes irritation to the skin. Safety Symbols- Symbol used to warn someone of danger. Flammable- Product that can catch on fire easily.

10 Vocabulary Words Page 2 Hazard- Chance of danger.
Invalid- Based on false facts. Specimen- Object being observed. Measure- To find the dimension, mass, quantity, or capacity of an object. Kilo- Prefix meaning 1000x Meter- Basic unit measure for distance. Accurate- Refers to how close measurements are to an actual result.

Centi- Prefix meaning 1/100 or .01 Liter- Basic unit of measure for volume. Gram- Basic unit of measure for mass. Precise- Refers to how close measurements are to one another. Classify- To organize objects or specimens according to their characteristics.

12 VOCABULARY Words page 4 Law- Describes the behavior of something in nature. Control Variable – Factor the scientist keeps the same. Theory –Explanation supported by results from an experiment. Independent Variable – Factor in the experiment scientist changes on purpose. Accurate –How close the measurements are to an actual result. Dependent Variable –Factor in the experiment that a scientist wants to observe.
