Basuki Abdullah (1915-1993) is one of the maestro artists Indonesia
Basuki Abdullah ( ) is one of the maestro artists Indonesia. He is known as a realist and naturalist. Has been appointed as the official artist of the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, and his works adorn palaces and presidential premises of the Indonesian state, moreover, he is widely known in the international world. Talent for painting Basuki inherited from his father Abdullah Suryosubro, who was an artist and dancer. His grandfather, Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo, was a prominent figure of the Indonesian National Awakening Movement in the early 1900s. With 4 years of Abdullah started to get some beautiful images of famous personalities, including Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Jesus Christ, and Krishnamurti. Initial education was obtained in a Catholic school. Thanks to the help of Pastor Koch Abdullah in 1933 won a scholarship to study at the Academy of Arts (Academie Voor Kunsten Beeldende) in The Hague, Netherlands, and completed his studies for three years. In 1948, Amsterdam (The Netherlands), during the coronation of Queen Juliana, who held a contest for drawing, Abdullah managed to beat 87 European artists, and came out the winner. Ever since the world began to recognize Basuki Abdullah, son of Indonesia. He spent a lot of solo exhibitions both within the country and abroad, in particular, his work has been exhibited in Bangkok (Thailand), Malaysia, Japan, the Netherlands, England, Portugal and other countries. About 22 countries have paintings Basoeki Abdullah. Most of his life, the artist spent abroad, including several years living in Thailand.
