3 THE ADDICTION One ingredient that can be found in a cigarette is nicotine. This is a highly addictive substance which is not synthetically added to the tobacco but is found naturally when tobacco is harvested and then put into cigarettes. Because it does not take long until the nicotine has reached the brain after inhalation, it will cause temporary relaxation and stress relief. It will also elevate ones mood. All these factors stiulate the brain creating a feeling which makes the smoker want more of it.

13 The Media The media as in television and radio commercials does not do a good job in preventing teenagers from smoking. The media is actually convincing teenagers TO smoke. And that has not changed since The videos on YouTube made by a groups of teenage or adult friends are sentimental and very convincing for teenagers to stop or not even start smoking. It is the YouTube homemade ads that really stop smoking.

15 Parents get interviewed
When my mother started to smoke she was 16 and was living in former east Berlin. She explained that she was swayed by friends and was curious to find out how smoking would be like Furthermore any other reason why she started to smoke was dumbness. She said that it was totally dumb and irresponsible for her to start smoking. She even says that today more teenagers smoke than when she was young. In the DDR (East Germany) you were allowed to smoke anywhere and the price for a pack was very low at 3-5 MDN per pack which is around €0.75 today. At school she was not taught how smoking was dangerous and the risks that come along with it because of the poor situation the country was in. Nevertheless, ads were prohibited in the DDR which was good because nobody would be swayed by TV ads. Overall she exclaims that it was absolutely disgusting and that she never wants to do it again. She quit without medical help in Summer 2007
