Biblical Theology and Leadership
The Bible narrates much about many leaders; it prescribes a relatively small number of pithy things. Can these things be properly understood apart from the example of Christ? Is the Bible interested in leadership as an end in itself? Is not the emphasis in the New Testament on Christian leadership in the church--the only institution that will survive into the new heaven and the new earth, rather than on leadership in some abstract sense? How can one possibly decide on the basis of looking at the leadership passages alone? Is it not the case that responsible interpretive answers can be offered to such questions only by considering the Bible's plot-line, and the priorities and scale of that plot-line? D. A. Carson
