C4 Overview: Purpose & Scope
Purpose: The Chaplain Captains Career Course (C4) broadens the Battalion Chaplain’s understanding of Army organizations, operations and procedures. Course content focuses on the integration of 21st Century Leader Competencies and the Chaplain Corps’ two core capabilities to provide religious support and to advise the commander on the impact of religion in a battalion level staff or at brigade staff level. Scope: Advanced skills and knowledge supporting the performance of critical tasks for battalion and brigade chaplain staff officer responsibilities. Trains leadership, ethics, administration, staff supervision of ministry in the military environment, combat and tactical functions, appropriated and non-appropriated funds management, and branch technical and common core tasks. Produce a competent mid-to-senior grade captain chaplain, ready to assume increased responsibility, characterized by the ability to: Demonstrate excellent presence (confidence & resilience) Possess the attributes of a critical thinker, sound judgment and innovation Prioritizes limited resources to accomplish mission Demonstrate the ability to take calculated risks Proactive in developing others through individual coaching counseling and mentoring Actively learns to master organizational level knowledge, critical thinking and visioning skills Anticipates and provides for subordinates needs for training and development Effectively communicates information and recommendations across echelons Demonstrate the ability to effectively solve or adapt to complex problems and changing environment Synthesize the elements of Religious Support in a JIIM environment Demonstrate proficiency in communication (oral and written) Demonstrate the ability to direct religious support at Task Force/brigade level Model the Army (LDRSHIP) and Chaplain Corps (SACRED) Values Develop subordinate UMTs through teaching, coaching, mentoring. Develop and model a Life-long learner approach to the profession of arms and spiritual leadership Demonstrate the ability to manage collegial differences in a respectful, firm and fair manner Lead others in developing spiritual resiliency Understand the importance of networking in Task Force/JIIM environment Demonstrate the ability to build cohesive Unit Ministry Teams Build support of the strategic vision Demonstrate the ability to advise the Commander Examine and analyze the effects of religion, culture, and worldview in the AO. Demonstrate proficiency in counseling (pastoral and career) Comprehends the lawful basis of the chaplaincy and the strategic implications for religious support; secures the future of the chaplaincy.

C4 RC Overview: Purpose, Scope and Team
Purpose: To train chaplains in the grade of Captain and above in the skills and knowledges supporting effective and efficient performance of critical chaplain religious leadership and Battalion and Brigade- level staff officer duties. Scope: Advanced skills and knowledges supporting the performance of critical tasks for battalion and brigade chaplain staff officer responsibilities. Trains leadership, ethics, administration, staff supervision of ministry in the military environment, combat and tactical functions, appropriated and non appropriated funds management, and branch technical and common core tasks. This Distributed Learning Phase 1 is web based training delivered through Blackboard. Phase 2 is scenario-driven Small Group Instruction conducted in residence at the U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School. Target Audience: Reserve Component Chaplains in the rank of captain, with 3-5 years of experience.
