2. Why APA Citation
The American Psychological Association created the writing format in order to be utilized by the social science

3. Citation with one Author
Example:
According to Jones (1998), "Students often had difficulty using APA style, especially when it was their first time" (p. 199). 
What to do?
For a short quote, give credit to the author and then put the year after the author’s name
At the end of the quote, put pg./website where you got the quote

4. Quote longer than 40 words
Example
Jones's (1998) study found the following:  Students often had difficulty using APA style, especially when it was their first time citing  sources. This difficulty could be attributed to the  fact that many students failed to purchase a style  manual or to ask their teacher for help. (p. 199)

5. Quote longer than 40 words
What to do?
Like a short quote citation, give credit to the author and at the end of quote put page/website in parenthesis
Indent ½ in. from left margin
Each line from quote should also be indented
No quotation marks are needed for long citations

6. Summary or Paraphrase What to do?
For extended pieces of information that have been summarized or paraphrased, credit the author’s work like the following:
