The Mid-Atlantic Region gets its name from its location.
Do you know where that is?

The east coast of the United States is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean.
These states are in the middle of the east coast.

“Mid” is short for middle
“Atlantic” is the name of the ocean most of these states are next to. The Mid-Atlantic Region is in the middle of the east coast which is right next to the Atlantic Ocean.

These states are and Washington D.C. the capital of the USA.

The capital of Delaware is Dover. Delaware is the second smallest

The Jersey Shore is a great place to go and enjoy the beach. On December 18, 1787, New Jersey became the third state.

The capital of New Jersey is Trenton. The world's first boardwalk was built in 1870 in Atlantic City New Jersey.

Pennsylvania is the only state in the Mid-Atlantic Region that does not touch the Atlantic Ocean. Pennsylvania was the 2nd state in the USA.

There are four major rivers and one Great Lake in Pennsylvania. This is the Liberty Bell. It is in Philadelphia, one of the oldest cities in America.

Washington D.C. This is not a state. It is a district, a city,
the capital of the USA. Washington, D.C. has two rivers, the Potomac and the Anacostia.
